This marine kit is supplied with copper fuel piping and appropriate connections and fittings that should satisfy the BSS regulations for fitment onto an inland boat (if fitted correctly), however it is ofcourse still perfectly suitable for fitment into an offshore boat aswell.

Inland waterways considerations The most popular boats for these units to be installed in are river Cruisers, this leads to a number of things needing to be considered: Webasto heaters (including Webasto Air Top Evo and Thermo Top) use a top mounted dip pipe fuel take off. Therefore access to the top of the tank is neccessary (side access is possible, please ask for details), All fuel pipe to pass BSS regulations will need to be copper or ISO7840 rated rubber, Exhaust positioning, fuel supply and 12v supply will all be subject to BSS regulations, One of our (Ely Boat Chandlers) members of staff is an independant Boat Safety Scheme examiner and would be happy advise a customer regarding BSS regulations relating to fitment of a Webasto Air Top EVO 3900 (or alternative model). Fitment of a marine diesel heater sounds problematic, but if you follow the installation manual provided and take account of BSS regulations it is pretty simplistic compared to many other DIY installations carried out by boatowners

Choosing the right Heating System As you will be able to see from other pages on our website we offer a number of heating solutions to suit your needs both inland and offshore, therefore we are in a great position to help advise you which product might best suit you. We believe one of the most important things is to think how you want to use the boat and then work backwards to identifty a product that will suit you. We have listed below what we consider to be the main advantages of installing a Webasto diesel heating system: The Webasto Airtop unit itself is small and unobtrusive allowing you to mount it out of the way (for example in the engine bay) Heating a boat by hot air is an effective way of heating the cabin quickly without having to wait for a system to warm up. Essentially it gives you near instant control over the temperature. Be aware that when installing a Webasto Air Top you will need to run ducting around the boat / cabin to position outlets and hence distribute the heat.
At Ely Boat Chandlers we will spend time helping you to choose the right heating product to suit your needs. We can help you regarding installation questions, boat safety questions and performance questions. Please note that we are not Webasto main dealers and as such cannot carry out installation, warranty or repair work on Webasto products.
