Webasto Thermo Top C This kit is a 5kw diesel fired hot water heater suitable for running a wet heating system (radiators and/or heater matrices and calorifier). This marine kit is supplied with copper fuel piping and appropriate connections and fittings that should satisfy the BSS regulations for fitment onto an inland boat (if fitted correctly), however it is ofcourse still perfectly suitable for fitment into an offshore boat aswell.
Please look at the information below to find out more, if you would like any help or further information then please feel free to give us a call on 01353 663095 . Webasto Thermo Top CKit contents The fuel pipe is 5mm copper with short lengths of ISO7840 rated rubber fuel hose (used for joints and to prevent system vibration). Both of these satisfy the inland BSS legislation. Dimensions of heater Specifications Heat output = 5.2kw (17,700 BTU/hr) Diesel Fuel consumption = 0.29 - 0.59 litres/hr (0.08 - 0.16 gal/hr) Rated voltage = 12v Rated current for 12v = 1.83 - 2.17A Water flow = 500 litres per hour (2.2 gal/min) - Exhaust diameter = 22mm (0.87")
Inland waterways considerations The most popular boats for these units to be installed in are Narrowboats, this leads to a number of things needing to be considered: Webasto heaters (including Webasto Air Top Evo and Thermo Top) use a top mounted dip pipe fuel take off. Therefore access to the top of the tank is neccessary (side access is possible, please ask for details), All fuel pipe to pass BSS regulations will need to be copper or ISO7840 rated rubber, Exhaust positioning, fuel supply and 12v supply will all be subject to BSS regulations, One of our (Ely Boat Chandlers) members of staff is an independant Boat Safety Scheme examiner and would be happy advise a customer regarding BSS regulations relating to fitment of a Webasto Thermo Top C (or alternative model). Fitment of a marine diesel heater sounds problematic, but if you follow the installation manual provided and take account of BSS regulations it is pretty simplistic compared to many other DIY installations carried out by boatowners

Choosing the right Heating System As you will be able to see from other pages on our website we offer a number of heating solutions to suit your needs both inland and offshore, therefore we are in a great position to help advise you which product might best suit you. We believe one of the most important things is to think how you want to use the boat and then work backwards to identifty a product that will suit you. We have listed below what we consider to be the main advantages of installing a Webasto diesel heating system: The Webasto Thermo Top C unit itself is small and unobtrusive allowing you to mount it out of the way (for example in the engine bay) Heating a boat with a wet system is an effective way of heating the cabin and hot water with the same system. The heat can be distributed by radiators or if space is tight heater matrices. The hot water is provided by running the heater output through a calorifier (treat it like another radiator on the system). We would ofcourse be very happy to talk you through any aspect of the plumbing you arent sure of. Be aware that when installing a Webasto Thermo Top you will need to run piping around the boat to carry the water. A flow and return system will normally comprice of a 22mm main circuit with 15mm spurs taken off for radiators, heater matrices and calorifiers. The control allows you to turn the heater ON / OFF simply and quickly and program in a discrete number of ON/OFF events.
. At Ely Boat Chandlers we will spend time helping you to choose the right heating product to suit your needs. We can help you regarding installation questions, boat safety questions and performance questions. Please note that we are not Webasto main dealers and as such cannot carry out installation, warranty or repair work on Webasto products.
