Wallas Diesel Ovens & Hobs FAQ

Do I need a separate exhaust for both a Hob and an Oven?

Print
PDF

Yes, the hob and oven on the 87D both have a separate burner which each need an exhaust, and obviously separate Wallas Hob and Oven units would each need an exhaust.

Two exhausts cannot be put through a Y-piece and out through one skin fitting, you will need to separate exhaust outlets.

Do Wallas do a four ring Hob?

Print
PDF

The simple answer is no. The Wallas hob has a single large burner below it that uses hot exhaust gasses to heat the entire surface, therefore you can treat it very much like a hot-plate. Many people can cook with 3 pans (or saucepans) on the hob at one time.

If you really cant live without the equivalent of four burners then you could always fit two hobs, but just think carefully, how often do you actually cook with more than two pans or saucepans at once?.

Do Wallas ovens have a grill?

No, a diesel flame is not suitable for grilling with. However a griddle pan can be used on the hob very effectively, and Wallas also make a great little toast rack that you can use to make toast on the hob.

How do I fit the fuel take off for a Wallas?

Print
PDF

Wallas Hobs & ovens use a dip pipe that goes into the top of the fuel tank, both the hobs and the ovens have a fuel pump in them that will pull the fuel out of the tank. If you cant get into the top of the fuel tank then we can help advise you on how you could fit a take off to a vertical tank face.

How do I wire in the 12v power supply?

Print
PDF

Wallas advise that you take power straight from the domestic batteries and don’t come off Bus-Bars or switch panels. Connecting it in that way means that you can be sure the Wallas is getting a good quality 12v supply and isn’t being affected by other items installed on your boat.

How long does a Wallas hob or oven take to warm up?

Print
PDF

The Hob and the oven go through a start-up cycle that takes approximately 4 minutes, at the end of that time both the hob and the oven will be well on the way to getting hot. You can compare the heat up time for the Wallas hob to a modern electric hob (not Halogen). The Wallas oven is fan assisted, so it will cook in a very similar time to a gas oven, if not quicker.

How often will a Wallas need servicing?

Print
PDF

Wallas have a specified service interval of 500 hours. Upon service the burner will be cleaned and all necessary consumables replaced, think of it like servicing your car, all complex machines need a little bit of TLC to keep performing correctly.

What connections do I need for an Oven or Hob?

Print
PDF

You will need a 12v supply, a diesel fuel supply and exhaust.

An oven and a hob can share a 12v electricity supply, they can also share a diesel supply but they each need a separate exhaust.

Where would I run the exhaust for a Wallas on an inland boat?

Print
PDF

The most popular place for an exhaust is to run it out below the gunnels (through the hull). Two key things to note are that the exhaust should be atleast 300mm above the waterline, and you should have a “swan neck” in the exhaust to prevent possible water ingress / flooding that could damage your Wallas hob or oven.

Will I be able to smell diesel?

No, the Wallas ovens and Hobs are as easy to use as a modern electric oven, they are quiet, efficient and quick, simply flick the switch, set the temperature and start cooking.
