"Designed to be quiet for environmentally sensitive waters, this 4HP electric outboard provides plenty of power for trolling and primary propulsion. Conventional outboard construction and design provides trusted reliability"
The new range of electric outboards from Parsun offer the robust design and construction of a standard outboard with the smooth quiet performance and "Green" credentials of an electric motor!. We are often asked what options there are for electric propulsion of small to medium size boats and until now we have only been able to offer products that are primarily aimed at the fishing or tender market. The Parsun 4 and 5HP electric motors are available in short and long shaft and with tiller or remote options, this means that they can be fitted just like a standard outboard (except the power supply), either as a replacement engine or a new fitment.
Many lakes and rivers and waterways are introducing restrictions on Petrol engine use
Electric engines dont emit the localised pollution that a petrol outboard does. Admittedly the electricity generation will have a carbon footprint, but scales of efficiency and selection of an EcoFriendly energy provider mitigate alot of this.
These four options allow you to fit the the motor on a wide variety of boats from Dorys to small cruisers:
.
F4 ETS (4hp, Electric, tiller control, short shaft)
F4 ETL (4hp, Electric, tiller control, long shaft)
F4 ERS (4hp, Electric, remote control, short shaft)
F4 ERL (4hp. Electric, remote control, long shaft)
.
If you would like to talk through which model may be suitable for you then please feel free to get in touch by email or give us a call on 01353 663095.
All four options are priced in the drop down menu at the bottom of this page.
The 4hp electric motor runs on 48v DC, this is achieved by connection four 12v deep cycle leisure batteries in series (12v + 12v + 12v + 12v = 48v DC). This arrangement would give you a 110A/hr battery bank at 48vDC, if you wanted to increase this then you could double it by having another 4 batteries connected in series (to make 48v) then connect that in parallel to the original 4. This is very simply done and we would be hapy to explain it to you should you need help.
The motor (all designs) comes with a 125A plug which you can see pictured in the "Pictures" section of this page. One side of the plug is connected to the positive and negative on the 48V battery bank, the other is attached to the engine. This allows quick and easy connection and disconnection of the outboard from the battery bank.
If we assume that four 110A/hr batteries contain a realistic useable charge of 80% capacity then it it will give us 88 A/hrs at 48v DC; this means you could take 88A @ 48vDC for 1 hour, or 1A @ 48vDC for 88 hours. The 4hp motor draws a maximum of 100A, therefore at full throttle it would last 53 minutes. That doesnt sound alot, but bear in mind that at half throttle or less the battery bank will last substantially longer. If you would like to discuss this further then please feel free to give us a call on 01353 663095.

. Controls
The tiller control engines are operated in a very similar manner to a traditional outboard, you can see these in the picture section of this page. The twist grip provides speed control, a switch on the front of the motor selects forward or reverse. A button on the LHS turns the motor on/off or displays the battery voltage on the engine top dial display (sorry this is not yet pictured but we are working on it).
The remote control version of the engine is operated with a control box. This looks and feels very similar to a standard outboard control. Forward, Neutral and Speed are controlled using the single lever. The controller is connected to the engine via a wiring harness that again is very similar to a traditional "Electric start" outboard. There is also the added advantage over a Petrol outboard that a gear and throttle cable are not needed because the speed and gear selection are controlled electronically through the wiring harness.
