Victron BMV602 S battery monitor

This gauge is a very capable and technically advanced piece of equipment, but rather than baffle you with science the main functionality of it is as follows:
  • The BMV602 connects to the negative of the main battery (or battery bank) that you want to monitor via a "shunt". This is a component that has a known resistance and therefore if you know the voltage passing across it you can also calculate the current passing across it. This is the very basis of measuring the state of charge of a battery bank.
  • The gauge itself takes a very small amount of electricity to run, this power is supplied by a connection from the battery (or battery bank) positive to the shunt, the shunt is then connected to the monitor via a data cable.
  • You can tell the monitor what type of batteries you have, and how many, this effectively calibrates the system (put in simplistic terms)
  • Now the monitor knows how big the system is (in A/hrs) it can then use the shunt to count power (A/hrs) usage and charge into and out of the system and display accurately what the state of charge is of your battery (or battery bank)
  • In addition to the Victron BMV600s the 602s has a second positive cable that you connect to the positive side of a second battery (or battery bank), this enables the gauge to give a Voltage readout of that second bank. This most common set up is for the gauge to be fully monitoring the domestic battery bank and just ot monitor the voltage of a starter or bow thruster battery.
This compact gauge offers the following functionality:
  • Voltage of Battery bank 1
  • Current of Battery bank 1 (value of charge or discharge)
  • Consumed energy of Battery bank 1(how many amp hours have been taken out of the bank)
  • State of Charge of Battery bank 1 (a percentage readout of how fully charged the battery bank is)
  • Voltage of Battery bank 2
The kit contains the following:
  • Victron BMV602s Battery monitor / gauge
  • Square bezel for mounting purposes (the gauge can be mounted without)
  • Shunt
  • 10m UTP cable
  • 2m battery cable and fuse (x2, one for each battery bank)
The wiring on these is pretty simple, but for those unfamiliar with such items it may be hard to visualise; therefore we have included the manuals on this page for further information:

We have had a couple of small issues uploading the full manual to our website, therefore please feel free to email us and we will happily send you a PDF version.
